Victoria Moorwood is a multimedia journalist.

She has spent the past few years honing experience in music journalism, travel blogging, interviewing, radio hosting, podcasting, social media managing, social entrepreneurship and news journalism.

She is from the Bay Area and is currently obtaining her BA in Journalism and Media Studies with Honors and Political Science minors at San Diego State University.

She is the Editor-in-Chief and creator of SDSU’s electronic home for music journalism, The Corner. The Corner is the journalism branch of Aztec Music Group, a student-run record label that combines student artists and business professionals. She started The Corner blog with artist interviews and music news, and the blog has since expanded to cover a range of concert reviews, artist interviews, music news and more. Victoria writes for the publication, edits posts and oversees a team of student music journalists.

Victoria is also a radio host for KCR College Radio on AM 1610 and blogs for the station as well. Her show, Naked News, won “Best News Show” for the fall semester of 2016. She and her co-host covered international, political and local news. Victoria live-tweeted student protests, engaged her listeners via social media and she and her co-host even hosted a live debate between representatives from the College Republicans and College Democrats on SDSU’s campus on Nov. 8, presidential election day.

Victoria’s first professional experience in journalism was writing for a local weekly newspaper on Mount Desert Island, Maine. She loves bringing the traditional values and hard-working ethics of old-school journalism to meet the new, exciting tools multimedia journalism has to offer. She is highly proficient in Audacity, HTML, CSS, Videolicious, iMovie, Canva, Piktochart, Hootsuite, BundlePost, WordPress and more. She is a confident portrait, scenery and concert photographer and can write for multiple platforms including web, print, radio and TV.

She also has on-camera experience. A major part of her music journalism is filmed interviews. Victoria is comfortable being on camera, contacting and interviewing high-profile celebrities. She has coached her team of The Corner writers to help them become better at on-camera interviews. She loves interviewing on-camera and is also comfortable behind the camera.

Victoria is also knowledgable about social entrepreneurship and social media. She has worked as a social media manager for two large San Diego based companies and as a booking producer for a brand journalism and marketing podcast, which in 2015 was named a top marketing podcast by Cision. These jobs taught her how to create compelling content, schedule social media posts strategically, launch social media campaigns and brand companies as well as herself.

On her free time, Victoria is the director of Animal Outreach for a service fraternity at SDSU. She is also involved in the Webers Honors College. Victoria enjoys surfing, hip hop concerts, traveling and travel blogging and meeting new people.

Exclusive Interview with The Skins

To understand The Skins, you’ve got to listen to them. Their EP “Still Sleep” dropped in December and has already been widely praised. What genre is it? Well, the catchy choruses will make you want to dance like a pop song would, the underlying beats and rapping personify hip hop, the dramatic guitar element is a tribute to classic rock, and you can sing your heart out to the soulful vocals. Not to mention some influences from funk, blues and whatever else The Skins decide to throw in… (read more on KCR Secret Sessions)

Stanaj | How a Karaoke Bar Led to Stardom

International Student Aiming for a Career Helping Others

A cool breeze slants left. The sun makes her squint. Multicolored rings on the target entice, yet mock her. But she’s not thinking about any of this as she releases her grip on the bowstring and the arrow flies through her fingers across the field, sinking deliberately into the target.

“I just try to not think when I’m shooting,” said sophomore biology major Carolina Cano, an international student from Mexico…(read more on SDSU News Center)

JAHKOY | Something Special in the Water

‘Something special must be in Canadian water!’ that comment made by many journalists was the inspiration for Jahkoy Palmer’s highly anticipated EP titled “Foreign Water,” which was just released in October. The album followed his September single “California Heaven,” featuring L.A. rapper Schoolboy Q. The single received rave reviews from USA Today, Billboard, and the Fader and is skyrocketing to the top of Spotify viral charts. Jahkoy has been described as “the next in the list of big names to come from Canada,” with his unique genre-blending approach tying R&B and electric house. His eclectic sound and feels-hitting vocals have generated active support from Pharrell, Elton John and his single “Odd Future” premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio Show and played on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio… (read more on Aztec Music Group)
